Rented an engine hoist today and raised the engine out of the crate. Here's the scene early in the morning:
The engine has the original oil sump which is rusted and weeps oil. Instead of patching it, I had Steven include a new sump and gasket in the crate. I removed the old sump, albeit with a little bit of effort. Two of the bolts that hold the sump to the engine case are meant to be removed with the engine separated from the transmission. Fortunately, my socket drive just barley fit on the bolts and got them out. I replaced them with socket head bolts so it can be removed with greater ease should it ever need to be.
I also removed the alternator belt. The belt was dry and cracked, so I figured might as well replace it with the engine out. Had the parts store match up the belt and installed the new one nice and snug.
I also flushed the cooling hoses and block with fresh water to get some of the sediment out of the waterways. Here's the engine ready for install:
Rolled the engine over to the car and got ready to drop it in for a test fit.
