Late February into March 2004
The wiring harness running throughout the interior of the car was immense compared a normal gas polo. Because the car was built as a two cylinder fuel injected diesel with G40 supercharger, there were additional guages, fuel injection computers, and many other relays and wiring related to the "Oko Polo" I had to remove this wiring and fit the interior of the car with wiring appropriate for the 1.05L Gas motor and appropriate guage cluster, etc. Pulling the old harness was a project in itself, as I wanted to preserve it in tact. I could have easily just hacked it all up and pulled it from the car, but it is one of only 70 harnesses exactly like it in the whole world, so I thought it was worth the effort.
Here is the right sight of the harness pulled through the firewall from under the hood:
Look at the mass of wires and relays that were tucked behind the dash. What a mess! I couldn't believe how much wiring this car had in it!
To put it in perspective, here is the pulled wire harness (left) laid out on the garage floor next to the harness Dowe pulled from a stock polo in Europe (right):
What a difference! I installed the new harness and tucked everything behind the dash exactly the way it came from the factory on a gas polo:
Note the correct clutch pedal correctly installed now. Next up was installing all the switches and guage cluster. Also, I installed a new speedo cable and the correct LHD clutch cable so all hand/foot levers and switches are operational.
