5 & 6 Continued - Wiring
12/1/03 & 12/2/03
First, I modified the clutch pedal (not very professionally, I might add) so that it would sit farther from the brake pedal, and at least would function for now until I can obtain the correct pedal. Here's what the clutch pedal looks like now:
Kind of ugly, but at least it should work alright. Then I went under the hood to look at the clutch cable. The clutch cable I have came from a right hand drive vehicle. The clutch release arm is on the left hand side of the transmission. As a result, the clutch cable is substantially too long. I tucked the excess out of the way, and figured out how the cable attached to the release arm. For some reason, I had to adjust the cable nut all the way out for the cable to sit correctly on the release arm. This is probably because I modified the clutch pedal a little bit, and the cable isn't being allowed to travel far enough to give me any slack. It is connected, and will work, but I am definitely going to try and find a left hand drive clutch cable along with the correct pedal. Here's the clutch cable connected to the release arm:
So now the clutch pedal is connected and the brake pedal works. That leaves the accelerator pedal. My car already had an accelerator cable so I didn't ask Steven to send one in the crate. I pulled the cable next to the carburetor linkage, and unfortunately my accelerator cable is the wrong style. This is because the car was a diesel. So now, I need to find the correct accelerator cable from a left hand drive car as well.
I also hooked up the coolant feed and return hoses for the heater matrix:
In this picture you can also see the wires now connected for the ignition switch to the starter and the alternator charge light.
I installed the coil in the factory location, and connected the wires from the TCI-H control unit to the coil, and to the distributor. Here is the coil:
And the distributor and ignition wires:
As well, fitted the oil pressure sensor wiring:
Well, that's about it for now. I plan on getting the radiator and coolant hoses/bottle installed next.
