Day 2 - More Preparation
11/22/03

Took the plastic portion of the dash under the steering wheel to look at the pedal assembly.

The polo only had an accelerator and brake pedal, so Steven had removed the clutch pedal from the donor polo and shipped it in the crate.  I got the pedal installed, but because it was from a newer polo, it did not match the brake pedal in mine.  Also, because it came from a right hand drive assembly, it sits a little too far to the right, a bit close to the brake pedal.  After getting the clutch cable through the steering assembly and the firewall, I hooked it to the pedal, and Viola! a functional clutch pedal.

By the time everything gets near completion, I plan on finding a clutch pedal from a left hand drive polo to match mine.

Looks interesting, and will work- but not the correct pedal.

After playing with the pedal for a while, I got to looking at the wiring under the hood.

Steven included the front section of the wiring loom and fuse box from the donor, and I spent quite some time looking at the harness installed in the car and comparing it with the one included in the crate.

Because my polo was originally a Diesel model, the wiring loom was a bit different, so I disconnected what was left connected under the hood and pulled the harness from the car.

I also spent some more time trying to remove that foamy cement stuff from the engine bay.

Here's the correct harness on the floor next to the Polo:

Well, the weekend is here.  Hopefully I will have some time to continue to detail the engine bay.  I also plan on purchasing a suitable engine hoist and chain so I can remove the engine/tranny from the crate and work on it.
